Elisa Marchesini
Visual artist, Amsterdam, the Netherlands/Italy
Born in 1983, Elisa is Dutch/Italian, and currently based in Amsterdam. Her design and autonomous art coincides with that of a modern-day anthropologist. She is a fashion designer working the other way around. Replace the word fashion with clothes, with the body, with behavior. Replace designer with explorer. Marchesini’s work is simultaneously in art and fashion related environments presented such as the Amsterdam Fashion Week, Fashion Biennial, Milk Gallery NYC, and Amsterdam Modern Art Museum

………………………………………….Looking for the Project
An installation that plays with the potentiality of an idea to become a projection, which in turn becomes a reflection of the idea for a social responsible related artwork.
An installation that consists of a meeting room of imaginative possibilities. A power point presentation is projected, featuring a blank screen that has been moved to different locations in Biella, where the residents initially thought of and still hope to make a social responsible artwork. The blank screen has been documented near Esselunga, Oropa, and the Cerruti Factory, creating a moving white space of projected endless possibilities, a space for imagination.
The white square (displaced) screen functions as a possibility. It has the potential to reflect anything.
The screen is also a receiver that obtains and collects all the ideas and information given during the Residency. Always present during the meetings, it absorbed all the previous presentations, it absorbed the residents, and visiting lecturers and artists. It is a witness.
The action of setting the screen up and waiting for something to happen is of importance. People ask what will happen. Anything could happen.

………………………………………….To Cut is To Create
A workshop centered around local children with the aim of exploring the construction and deconstruction of existing structures in clothing.
The magic of finding different ways of grasping, labeling and creating new spaces within social codes is what the artist would like to share with others. The main focus of the workshops she developed for local children is to discover new possibilities within existing structures, focusing on clothes. Elisa applied ’strategies’ from her previous artwork, such as cutting existing clothes, exploring storytelling and forms of imaginative communication, as a tool for deconstructing and reconstructing society. She ran a series of workshops in schools as well as sessions during Biella’s ‘Festival dei Bambini’ to explore different methods with local children.
All the cut garments, experimentations, objects and outcomes from the different workshops were developed into an installation in spaces of Cittadellarte.
