A presentation of research exploring the subject of labels/brands/trademarks by focusing on the usage of the artist’s signature as the main point of reference. This project will develop into a workshop, meeting and public presentation to be held in Belgrade 2008-2009, in association with Unicredit.

Lately, there have been a growing number of Eastern European artists who have become interested in empirical research on name-tags and trade marks. This project is a close inspection of labels and personal names, and especially the analysis of an artist’s signature on their piece of work as a means of recognition and reference.
In its three stages of development, the project will primarily consist of a workshop, scheduled for December, which should be held in cooperation with the University of Arts in Belgrade. Its aim is to bring students to a series of discussions on the subject of brand names, preparing them for the second stage of the project, a meeting to be held in May 2009. This will bring together 10 international speakers and participants from various fields of expertise in contemporary art, society and economy in a further discussion, further preparation for the ultimate stage of a public exhibition and publication scheduled for October 2009. A collection of the visual and textual materials collected from the previous two activities will be shown there, coinciding with the Belgrade’s most important international contemporary art event, the ‘October Salon’.
