Sakiko Sugawa
Organiser and Media Activist, Japan
Graduating from the City University of New York in Media Studies, Sakiko has organized projects including “Young photographers’ Biennial,” and “Open University”, and conducted a series of “visual propaganda” that dealt with Middle East. A director at the continuing education program, “GARDEN/Assembly hour” at Kyoto Seika, Sugawa founded the organization “hanare” in Kyoto. Through diverse activities, she aims to question and challenge social and cultural clichés, and provide an opportunity to think about social issues that are relevant to our lives today.

A website dedicated to people living in conflicted regions, offering an online meeting place and a micro-scale conflict resolution.
Sakiko Sugawa plans to create a website for any conflicted groups to meet in a friendly and potentially romantic context. In this way, there is the chance for each side to understand the dispute from an entirely different perspective, the issue being that in the majority of cases, individuality and personalized views are highly restrained in times of conflict.
